The Congregation of the Marian Missionary Sisters of the Poor is an Institute of consecrated life of active apostolate in the model of our Blessed Mother Mary, who is an example of compassion, selfless love and humility in the service to the needy.

Admissions requirements

Admissions to Aspiracy and Postulancy:

  • Roman Catholic Girl

  • WASSCE ‘O’ Level or it equivalent with a minimum of 5 credits

  • NCE, HND, Nursing Diploma, BA/BSC or equivalent (waiver to this criteria will be dealt with on individual basis)

  • Experience relevant to the nature of apostolate of the congregation.

  • Proven success of working in a community or Parish with young people

  • Has awareness of or the disposition to learn strategies for dealing with children who exhibit learning and/or behavioral difficulties.

Mission statement

The charism of the congregation requires members to respond to new needs and unmet concerns in our changing world in line with the Gospel message. Members are to seek perfection through their consecrated life through:

Following “Christ more closely as He prays, announces the Kingdom of God, performs good works for people, shares His life with them in the world, and yet always does the will of the Father” (cf: Can. 577)

Life dedicated to the apostolic ministries of spreading the gospel message through their exemplary lives, catechesis for the propagation of the catholic faith and charitable works geared towards offering a new beginning to the socially excluded and helping the poor and needy to be self-reliant, serving, sharing and empathizing with those suffering or and in physical pain.

The experience of deep spiritual life supported by prayer and meditation which should characterise their selfless, compassionate and gentle attitude towards others.

Living out our faith by treating ourselves and others with respect and consideration and always remembering that we are all of equal value before God.

  • Is a highly motivated and enthusiastic team member with a proven ability to work successfully and positively in a team or community.
  • Dedication to the Eucharist and Our Blessed Lady through daily attendance to Holy Mass and praying of the Rosary.
  • Dedication to Church Choir and other apostulates.
  • Can lead and contribute to discussion and implementation in an informed but sensitive manner.
  • Has the ability to relate positively to young people with behavioural, emotional and learning difficulties.
  • Has the ability to help pupils to achieve set goals in order to raise self-esteem and improve behaviour.
  • Has flair and imagination in problem-solving.
  • Has good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to equal opportunities and the charism of the congregation.
  • Able to work with other colleagues to ensure consistency and share good practice.
  • A willingness to participate in, and contribute to, relevant positive discussions.
  • Flexibility and willingness to accept corrections and to learn new skills.
  • Innate tendency to be compassionate, caring and ability to empathise.
